Walter Wadsworth was a commanding centre-half who was at Anfield for seven seasons immediately following the end of the First World War.
He had actually made his debut for the club at Middlesbrough in the spring of 1915 before the national leagues were replaced by regional ones for the next four years. Wadsworth played regularly for Liverpool in the Lancashire tournaments during the war and made 33 league appearances for the club in the first post-war national First Division season of 1919-20, by which time his brother Harold was also on Liverpool's books.
When the club first won and then retained the League championship in 1922 and 1923, Walter played in 75 out of a maximum 84 matches and continued to be a regular in the side for the next two years. Walter's career low came on February 14, 1925, as he was sent-off v Newcastle along with teammate Jock McNab and neither of them played for the remainder of the season. He next featured on 5th September 1925 and made a further four appearances at the end of the season before signing in May 1926 for Bristol City at the ripe old age of 36. He was Bristol City's captain which won the Third Division South and featured in 27 Second Division games.
On June 2 1926 he was hired as Flint Town's player-manager. He stayed two and a half years with Flint Town before moving to New Brighton where he added 55 appearances to his already long career. He played into his 40's with Oswestry Town.
