Harold was a left winger who was on Liverpool's books for five years just after the First World War. His brother Walter was already at Anfield when he arrived there in 1919 but he found stiff competition for his left-wing position from Albert Pearson and was restricted to just nine league appearances in his debut season. He was selected more frequently in 1920-21 but only made four league appearances during the two seasons when Liverpool first won and then retained the First Division championship. 1923-24 proved to be Harold's last season as a Liverpool player.
Harold was an ever-present in Leicester's team which won the Second Division and then consolidated their place in the First Division. After 106 games and seven goals for Leicester he left for Second Division Nottingham Forest in April 1927. Harold stayed one season at Forest playing 35 games and scoring 10 goals before helping Millwall establish itself in the Second Division for three years.
