Scott Carson was signed by Rafael Benitez from Leeds United in January 2005.
He made his Leeds debut when coming on as a sub in their 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on January 31, 2004. Paul Robinson was sent-off in the 88th minute and Carson's first task was to try to save a penalty, but he didn't succeed. He then started for Leeds against Manchester United three weeks later.
Carson was kept out of Leeds' starting line-up in the 2004-2005 season by Neil Sullivan and wanted a new challenge. Liverpool won the race with Chelsea to sign the England U-21 keeper in January 2005. He was Dudek's understudy, but his quest to become Liverpool's number one keeper became considerably more complicated with the arrival of Jose Reina in July 2005.
After only nine games in two years, including a great performance in the quarter-final against Juventus at Anfield in the Champions League winning 2004-2005 season, he left on loan to Premiership side Charlton where he impressed even though the club was relegated. Carson was on loan at Aston Villa through the 2007/2008 season and while impressing there Villa didn't take up the option to sign him. Premier League newcomers West Bromwich Albion signed him in the summer of 2008 but they were relegated at the end of the season.
International record: Scott Carson has featured in 29 England u-21 internationals, a record he established in the European Championship U-21 finals in June 2007.
