Liverpool Football Club have been successful in securing funding from The Premier League, the New Football Pools and Liverpool City Council to tackle men’s health in North Liverpool.
Beginning in August 2009 specific men’s health initiatives will be developed as part of the successful ‘Action for Health’ Programme.
Plans include community health checks, men’s health events, physical activity sessions and supporting information literature. LFC will also be working in partnership with AFC Liverpool to promote men’s health.
The aim will be to promote healthier lifestyles and tackle poor physical health. Men aged 18 years and over will also be linked with other local agencies who can also help improve their health.
Nationally men still have a lower life expectancy than women (77 compared with 81) and do not readily participate in health programmes or go to a GP or pharmacy for early health advice.
