Title-chasing Liverpool are bidding to beat Chelsea in the £20million chase for Serbian superstar Lazar Markovic, writes Alan Nixon in the Sunday People.
Kop boss Brendan Rodgers wants to land the Benfica wide man in a massive deal as he prepares for the Champions League football next season.
Markovic has been on the Kop radar since he was a kid, but Rodgers faces a battle to land the 20-year-old who has been a big hit at Benfica since joining from Partizan Belgrade.
Chelsea have been on Markovic's trail for years and rumours are rife in Serbia that they have already set up a move.
But Liverpool think he is the ideal type of player for them as they plan ahead for next season.
Rodgers wants four or five top drawer signings, preferring to recruit younger talent, as he tries to build on the club's success this term.
