FC Copenhagen are prepared to bring an end to Christian Poulsen's disappointing spell at Liverpool.
Reports in Denmark suggest the Superliga champions will make a move for the 31-year-old when the transfer window opens in the summer.
Poulsen has failed to win over the Anfield support after being signed by Roy Hodgson for almost £5million from Juventus in August as a replacement for the departing Javier Mascherano.
The central midfielder has slipped steadily down the pecking order since Hodgson's tumultuous reign was brought to an end by the arrival of Kenny Dalglish as manager in January.
Poulsen began three of Dalglish's first four Premier League games in charge, but has subsequently started only two Europa League matches and wasn't even on the bench for Liverpool's last two games.
The midfielder is likely to welcome an approach from his former club Copenhagen following a warning last month from Denmark national team manager Morten Olsen.
Despite being his country's captain, Poulsen was left on the bench for the recent friendly against Slovakia having been substituted during the Euro 2012 qualifier in Norway three days earlier.
And Olsen later stated Poulsen could be dropped from the squad altogether if he doesn't start playing more regular first-team football.
"I don't know if he is going to get in the Liverpool team during the remainder of this season, but if he isn't, he will not be in my squad for the Euro qualifying game against Iceland on June 4," said the coach.
Poulsen is likely to be one of several players leaving Anfield in the summer, although caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish has claimed no decision has been made on the future of any player currently at the club.
Dalglish has been reticent to publicly discuss his own future, although talks have started over extending his stay as manager beyond the end of the season.
But Steve Clarke, who joined his fellow Scot on the Anfield coaching staff in January, has hinted at a long-term deal for the pair.
The Liverpool first team coach has made a big impression since he arrived at the club in January.
It has proved to be a shrewd appointment by Dalglish with the players speaking highly of Clarke's training methods.
And the former Chelsea no.2, who has also had spells at Newcastle and West Ham, has spoken of his desire to continue his work with the Reds.
"Every manager I've worked with - you pick up good qualities from all of them and so far, in a short space of time, I've seen a lot of great qualities from Kenny," said Clarke.
"I hope to continue the work into the future."
