Liverpool are definitely keen on signing free agent Victor Valdes but will wait until the keeper is fit again before making their move.
Former Barcelona ace Valdes is currently without a club and can therefore move outside of the transfer window, meaning the Reds can wait until October when he is likely to be fit again before bringing him to Anfield.
Boss Brendan Rodgers is looking for a replacement for Pepe Reina, who joined Bayern Munich earlier in the summer, and he wants an experienced keeper to challenge Simon Mignolet's place in the squad as the Reds' undisputed number one.
Current back-up keeper Brad Jones is seemingly not considered good enough for that role long term. Sampdoria's Argentina international keeper Sergio Romero was considered by Rodgers but it appears he has have settled on Valdes and hopes to sort out a deal for the 32-year-old soon.
Valdes, who made over 500 appearances for Barca during a 12-year spell at the Nou Camp, was all set to join Monaco this summer after his contract expired but he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in March and he has been on the sidelines ever since.
If Valdes were to join, he would have to wait until January to play when Liverpool can then make changes to their 25-man Premier League squad.
