Banks' career as a Liverpool player was cut short by the advent of the First World War.
He had played in nine of the final 11 league fixtures of 1913-14, scoring four goals, and made a further 17 appearances the following season, adding another two goals to his total.
However, the war intervened and although he played on twenty occasions for Liverpool during this time, his Anfield career ultimately came to an end when he signed for neighbours Tranmere Rovers in April 1919.
After only a seven month stay he moved to Second Division Fulham where he played 44 games and scored 12 goals from 1919-1921.
