Merseyside-born inside-forward Alan made his debut for Liverpool a few days short of his 20th birthday against Brighton at Anfield in September 1958.
It would prove to be a dream start too as he scored Liverpool's third goal in a convincing 5-0 victory.
However, established players like Alan A'Court and Jimmy Harrower were ahead of him in the pecking order he made just two more appearances that season, scoring one more goal.
Although he would only feature another five times towards the end of the 1960-61 season he enjoyed a good strike-rate for the Reds, notching another four times.
That brief hot-streak was as good as it got during his time with Liverpool and he left soon after, going on to score over 200 goals in the lower leagues with Exeter and Cambridge.
Other clubs:
Rankin Boys (youth), Cambridge City, Exeter, Plymouth, Exeter (2); Poole Town, Tiverton Town (both amateur)
