So begins the fairytale: Stig Inge Bjornebye scored the winning goal in the Norwegian Cup final.
The following day Graeme Souness was on the phone offering him a contract with Liverpool - a couple of days that changed his life in an instant.
Bjornebye struggled with life in the Premiership in the first two seasons but his breakthrough came in the 1994-95 season. Unfortunately he suffered a broken leg reaching for a cross while his studs got caught in the grass, when playing against Southampton in April 1995.
He only played two games in the 1995-96 season but his career hit peak form in 96-97 when the team finally mounted a serious assault on the title failing in the last stages. He got down the wing and delivered pin-point passes into the penalty area providing plenty of goals for Fowler and Collymore.
Bjørnebye became one of the first departures of the Gerard Houllier era. He was loaned out to Brøndby during the last months of the 1999-2000 season before being sold to Blackburn in the summer, rejoining Souness. Sadly Stig Inge had to call it quits in 2003, after fracturing his eye-socket.
