Robert was a centre-half who played for Liverpool soon after their formation in 1892.
Although he played no part in the regular season of 1894-1895, he was called up to replace Joe McQue for the Test Match against Bury at the end of April 1895. Liverpool lost 1-0 and were relegated back to the Second Division. Robert played no part the following season as the club made an immediate return to the First Division, but made 22 appearances in 1896-1897 as the club finished in a creditable fifth place.
Robert scored two league goals for Liverpool, with one more coming in the FA Cup against West Bromwich Albion in February 1897.
