Striker Jon Newby first arrived at Liverpool as a nine-year-old.
A quick, though slightly-built striker, he was part of the team that won the FA Youth Cup with his fellow teammates Carragher, Thompson and Owen in 1996.
Newby was surplus to requirements at Anfield and signed for Bury where he played 125 games for the Shakers and scored 24 goals. Bury's leading goalscorer in his second season, he was sold to Huddersfield in the summer but he rejoined Bury a year later. He struggled with injuries in his second spell at Bury and was released in the 2005-2006 season. He had short spells at Wrexham and Southport, before joining Morecambe in the club's first season in the Football League. He joined Scottish Side Greenock Morton in July 2008.
