Signed in September 1968, Phil Boersma made his League debut almost exactly a year later at West Bromwich Albion, but only made three more league appearances that season, plus two run-outs in cup competitions.
Phil never really established himself as a first-time regular at Anfield but was always a good 'squad' player and scored a number of important goals for the club, including four during the successful UEFA cup run of 1972-73. He also netted scored seven times in the League that season as the Reds won the title.
Boersma's most productive spell at the club came at the start of the 1974-75 season when he scored 10 goals in five weeks.
He later returned to Anfield as manager Graeme Souness' right hand man, a partnership they had developed at Rangers and has since followed Souness to Southampton, Benfica, Galatasaray and Blackburn.
