Liverpool-born Len Carney was an amateur player who was picked six times for Football League matches during the 1946-47 and 1947-48 seasons.
He was 31-years-old when he made his debut at Sheffield United on the opening day of the first full season following the Second World War, a season in which Liverpool would go on to win their 5th First Division championship.
The nail-biting end to that season was a long off on the last day of August 1946 when Len scored the only goal of the game in the very last minute!
