Herbert Craik made just a single first-team appearance for Liverpool as a defender during the 1903-04 season when the club was relegated to the Second Division after finishing next to bottom of the First Division table.

The only time the name Craik figured on a Liverpool team-sheet was in the fourth match of a depressing season, a 3-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion. Liverpool lost their first five league games and were never able to regain the ground that would have preserved their First Division status.
