After featuring in 187 matches for First Division Wolves from 1894-1901, Fleming played for Liverpool for five seasons at the start of the 20th Century.
The club's contrasting fortunes during those five years were dramatic because at the time Fleming played his first game the club was defending its first Football League Championship and yet would be relegated just three years later.
Only to bounce straight back by winning the Second and then First Division championships in successive seasons. Records show that Fleming played in a number of different positions, making him the utility player of his time.
Fleming was called on 24 times during his debut season, scoring just once, a late winner at Aston Villa at the end of March 1902. After being in and out of the side for the next two years, he had his best season in 1904-05 when after missing the opening five league fixtures he played in the remaining 29.
He started the 1905-06 season in the first-team but lost his place after three matches and only figured once more, his 79th and last league appearance coming at Sheffield United nine days before Christmas 1905.
Fleming stayed on to become assistant trainer at Liverpool after his playing days were over.
