Inside-forward Forshaw joined Liverpool as league football returned after the end of the First World War and was a regular scorer for the club for eight seasons.
Introduced into the Liverpool first eleven after the opening three fixtures of the 1919-20 season, Forshaw played in 23 First Division games and scored seven times. His strikes included a hat-trick against Derby County in helping his club finish the season in fourth place. Another fourth place followed a year later when Forshaw's contribution was nine goals from 27 appearances.
It was during the next two years that Forshaw really came to prominence, not missing a single league game as the club won the League title in consecutive seasons, 1921-22 & 1922-23.
He scored 36 times in those 84 games, a remarkable total for a player in his position. Although Dick only missed three games when Liverpool unsuccessfully went for a championship hat-trick, his goals tally was down to five but 'normal service' was resumed in 1924-25 when he was easily the club's leading scorer with 19 and he bettered that in what was to prove his final full season at Anfield with 27 from only 32 league games in 1925-26.
In March 1927, Forshaw made the short trip across Stanley Park to continue his career with Everton. He starred along with the great Dixie Dean, picking up his third League Championship in his first full season there and played two and a half years in top flight football until he reached 34 and joined Second Division Wolves. He only stayed at Molineux one season and retired at the end of the 1930-31 season.
