Francis Checkland made five consecutive league appearances for Liverpool early in the 1921-22 season when he replaced right-half John Bamber who had played in the first four matches of the season.

However, Jock McNab took over the No. 4 shirt after those five matches in September and October 1921 and Checkland never played for Liverpool's first-team again.
