Kenny Dalglish is poised to snap up Rennes winger Sylvain Marveaux on July 1.
The 24-year-old playmaker is out of contract in the summer and was the subject of a wave of interest during the January transfer window.
Manchester United and Chelsea had both expressed an interest as he weighed up his options while West Ham had a £3million bid rejected by Rennes last year
Marveaux is understood to have been a guest at Anfield for Liverpool's recent game against Wolves.
Despite their shock defeat in that game, and Fernando Torres' controversial January departure, Marveaux - a former France Under-21 star - is still intent on joining.
Marveaux said: "I am very close to reaching agreement with Liverpool about joining them next season."
The midfielder is currently recovering from groin surgery and Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi admits he does not expect Marveaux to play for the club again.
