Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is said to be close to announcing the signing of veteran Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
According to the Daily Mail, the 40-year-old stopper has been offered a two-year contract at White Hart Lane and is likely to agree to the move to London.
Redknapp wants to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace Heurelho Gomes as the number one choice between the posts, following a number of high-profile errors by the Brazilian, including in matches against Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Friedel is a highly-experienced keeper, having represented the USA in the 1994 World Cup.
Before moving to Villa Park, his previous clubs included Liverpool and Blackburn, with the star making more than 300 appearances for Rovers during his time at Ewood Park.
He also holds the record for the highest number of consecutive appearances in top-flight English football - managing 228 games in a row.
Friedel moved to Aston Villa in July 2008 from Blackburn in a £2.5 million deal, signing a three-year contract with the Midlands club.
Redknapp is planning to revamp the Spurs squad this summer, as he looks to build a team capable of challenging for Champions League qualification next season.
