Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton are set to scrap it out to land Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, according to sources in Italy.
Both Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez are in pursuit of a top-four place this season and they are expected to bolster their squads in January.
Rodgers has a shortage of central midfielders and it is believed he will strengthen this area of his side when the window opens.
The Northern Irishman's scouts have issued glowing reports about 23-year-old Badu, who is valued at about £7m.
He is in his fifth season at Udinese, having signed from Asante Kotoko.
But Martinez is also keen on the Ghana international and could look to nab him from under the noses of Everton's fiercest rivals.
