Tottenham may face competition from Liverpool for Danish international defender Simon Kjaer who has been linked with a move away from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
The talented centre-back spent two years in Italian football with Palermo where he quickly established himself in the first team despite his relative inexperience and young age.
After a string of superb displays in Serie A he was signed by former England manager Steve McClaren - who was recently sacked by the German club - and has earned rave reviews for his calm presence and ability on the ball.
The 21-year-old had been linked with a move to Chelsea before completing his move to Germany, however the Blues have recently signed Brazilian defender David Luiz and have eased their interest in Kjaer.
According to reports in the German media, Wolfsburg have revealed that they may be willing to listen to offers in the summer when they could demand a sizeable transfer fee.
The young defender was signed on a four-year deal for €14 million, so should either Premier League team decide to move for Kjaer then a deal in excess of this amount would be expected by Wolfsburg.
Kjaer has already won 15 caps for Denmark and would be a good long term option for either Liverpool or Spurs.
The Reds have struggled to keep clean sheets this season and may see Kjaer as the perfect partner for fellow Dane Daniel Agger.
The pair have played together a number of times on international duty and with Jamie Carrgher coming towards the end of his career, manager Kenny Dalglish will be in the market for a talented centre-back.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is also said to have impressed with Kjaer and may move for the player in the summer after a number of defenders have struggled with injuries this season.
Ledley King and Jonathon Woodgate have long-term injuries that limit their appearances while Michael Dawson and William Gallas has both picked up injuries throughout the campaign.
Both teams will also face plenty of competition after Kjaer's displays have attracted interest from a number of Europe's biggest clubs.
