Liverpool will attempt to land Ajax striker Luis Suarez this month as the club's new owners prepare to hand significant funds in the transfer window in the hope of igniting a push towards the top six.
Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the Uruguayan international who is apparently keen on leaving the Eredivisie club following the departure of boss Martin Jol last month.
Roy Hodgson had been hoping to bring in some new attacking options and is linked with moves for a number of potential additions and will hope that a bid in the region of £18m will make Ajax consider selling their star striker. The Amsterdam club had been hoping to secure around £30m for the 23 year old but may accept less as they attempt to resolve massive debts they have accrued.
Suarez is currently serving a seven game suspension for biting an opponent and is reportedly very unhappy with life at Ajax and will hope to force an exit and a move to the Barclays Premier League apparently interests the former Groningen man.
Liverpool will be looking to bring in potential signings to take some of the goalscoring burden from Spaniard Fernando Torres and Hodgson and Director of Football Damien Comolli may well see Suarez as an ideal partner for the Anfield striker.
Tottenham and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the Ajax marksman who has netted a phenomenal 110 goals in three and a half seasons at the club.
