Liverpool are being linked with a £15m move for Phil Jones of Blackburn but face a battle with Manchester United for his services.
Boss Kenny Dalglish was on hand at Ewood Park on Monday night to watch the England under-21 star in action, and he was joined by director of football Damien Comolli, who will oversee the summer transfer action.
The Reds will not have it all their own way, though, as Sir Alex Ferguson is also thought to be keen and United will push Liverpool for his signature.
Dalglish is set to be busy over the close season with major changes to his Anfield squad expected, Bolton's Gary Cahill and Paris St Germain ace Mamadou Sakho are also on the Scot's radar if he misses out on Jones.
