Roy Hodgson is ready to make a £5m offer to Stoke in order to capture centre half Robert Huth in the new year.

Stoke are keen on keeping the German defender but Hodgson has a defensive crisis and he is set to try and end that by landing Huth, known as the Berlin Wall.

The Reds look set to be without Jamie Carragher until February while Daniel Agger has a calf problem which has plagued him all season and shows little sign of healing.
