David Ngog's performances at Liverpool are set to earn him a new contract.
Ngog, 21, is the club's leading scorer with eight in all competitions and his development means he will be offered an extension to his current deal, which has 18 months to run.
He is hoping to partner Fernando Torres against bottom-club Wolves today, when Liverpool will look to make it five home victories in the Premier League since their 2-1 setback against Blackpool at the start of October.
"We want to reward our fans by ending the year with a win," said Ngog. "We are at home and we need to continue our good recent record at Anfield.
"We know teams sometimes when they come to Anfield sit back and defend, but we are well prepared for that."
Ngog was among a list of players Roy Hodgson was told to sell in the summer, but the manager has been won round.
Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli also believes Ngog has talent, with the player having added power to his game and improved his workrate from last season.
Ngog is likely to seek assurances over his role at the club before putting pen to paper.
"I am young but I can't waste my time," he said.
"The quicker I can succeed the better. I am ambitious and I want to be at the top and to play and to be one of the best. If I see that I don't have a chance to play and don't play I will try to think about another option.
"If things don't happen, I will have to make decisions."
