Liverpool have been cleared to sign Micah Richards at the end of the season after he told Manchester City he will leave at the end of the season.
Richards, who is a product of City's academy system, had been in talks with the club over a contract extension - despite hardly playing in the last 18 months because of injury.
However, despite the negotiations, Richards did not receive assurances over his future at the Etihad Stadium - and will now leave in the summer.
The Guardian says City have accepted the move, and are now ready to listen to offers for the exciting full-back.
The news will delight Liverpool, where Brendan Rodgers is a huge fan of the player, having reportedly tried to sign him in January.
It is expected that the Reds will go back in for Richards at the end of the season, with a £7million bid likely to be lodged.
The 25-year-old, who has also been linked with AC Milan in recent weeks, is said to favour staying in English football over a move away.
