Basel ace Mohamed Salah is still a long way off making a January move to Liverpool, according to reports.

The Egyptian is reported to be one of Brendan Rodgers' top transfer targets this month, after impressing for Basel in the Champions League.

But rumours suggesting the Reds have agreed a £7m fee for the 21-year-old are incorrect, according to the Liverpool Echo.

It is thought Basel would demand around £12m for their star man, so the two clubs look as though they are some way apart on their valuations.

But Rodgers will be keen to seal an early deal for any incoming players this month, as he looks to bolster his squad as they continue their pursuit of a top four spot this term.

Liverpool have also been linked with a loan move for Barcelona's Cristian Tello, but it is believed the club are currently looking at other more permanent options.
