Liverpool will look to wrap up a deal to sign Victor Valdes next month when the Spain goalkeeper is fit to undergo a medical.
Valdes, who is a free agent having ran down his contract with Barcelona, is currently sidelined as he recovers from cruciate ligament damage.
Brendan Rodgers, however, is an admirer of the 32-year-old and wants to bring Valdes - who had been set to join Monaco before being left stricken in March -to provide stiff competition for current No1 Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool have held talks with Valdes and he has indicated his desire to move to Anfield but the move will not be made official until he has completed tests on Merseyside in October.
There is nothing to top other clubs coming in during the meantime to make Valdes, a three-time Champions League winner, a rival offer but Liverpool are confident they are in pole position.
