Liverpool target hints at £10m summer sale

Blackpool's midfield maestro Charlie Adam says he has no regrets after the 'crazy' January transfer window, but confirms he will leave the Tangerine Army at the end of the season.

Liverpool failed in numerous attempts to sign the 25-year-old Scottish international, and after that move looked dead in the water, Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp also came in with a bid at the final hour.

"I was close to leaving," Adam said. "Liverpool were the main contenders but couldn't agree a fee, while Spurs came in at the last minute - I only got a phone call about their interest around 10.20pm.

"Tottenham are in the Champions League, they have got some of the best players, like Rafael van der Vaart, and my Scotland team-mate Alan Hutton is there as well.

"But for me, it was all about making the right decision - and, in the end, that decision was made for me."

The Seasiders star has taken the Barclays Premier League by storm this season, and has continued to show why manager Ian Holloway values Adam at £10million.

Despite hitting a difficult period in their season, Adam continues to go from strength to strength and it is believed that both Liverpool and Spurs will renew their interest in the summer.

"Since day one at Blackpool, the most important thing for me has been to try to do well for the club. If an opportunity comes for me to move on, I want to leave on the best possible note.

"It's probably right that I stay until the end of the season and help the club stay in the Premier League."

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is eager to orchestrate a summer move to Anfield, but will be cautious over Adam's reluctance to commit to the Reds specifically, amidst continued interest from White Hart Lane.

"My shirt will be tangerine for the last nine games and it would be wrong of me to say I want to go here or there, because that would be disrespectful to the players.

"Let me concentrate on the last nine games, which will be like nine cup finals, to keep Blackpool in the Premier League and let the manager and chairman make the other decision for me."

What's certain is that Adam will leave Blackpool at the end of the season. But as yet, the destination remains unclear with Liverpool and Tottenham set to pick up where they left off in vying for the player's signature.
