Liverpool have reportedly begun negotiations with Wigan over the signing of Charles N'Zogbia.
The French international winger has previously been linked with an Anfield switch, and reports in The People claim Liverpool have held talks with the player's club over a move to Merseyside.
Kenny Dalglish was at the DW Stadium last weekend to run the rule over the player first-hand, and the Liverpool legend was reportedly impressed by the former Newcastle winger.
The Latics are thought to want in the region of €17 million for the player, while the Reds are keen to negotiate a cut-price deal for the player.
New owners NESV have pledged a transfer war chest in the region of £35 million, with Liverpool boss Dalglish thought to have highlighted an attacking foil for Fernando Torres as the main priority. Negotiations with Luis Suarez are thought to be ongoing.
N'Zogbia, who began his career with the Magpies before joining Wigan in 2009, has previously stated his desire to leave and join a 'higher-level' Barclays Premier League outfit.
Liverpool, with their history and heritage, could provide the Frenchman with that opportunity providing the two parties can reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
Damien Comolli, director of football strategy at Anfield, is also thought to have given the green light over a move for the player and Liverpool will hope to secure the player's signing in final week of the window.
