Liverpool line up St Etienne star

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli is lining up a raid on his former club St Etienne for pacy winger Dimitri Payet.

Comolli believes the 24-year-old French international fits the bill for Liverpool and will press ahead in his attempts to sign him at the end of the season.

According to reports in France, Comolli has already been in touch with St Etienne about a possible £6.5m deal for Payet, but his former club are unwilling to lower their £9m valuation of the 12-goal star.

PSG and Juventus are also monitoring Payet's progression, although it has been reported that Liverpool are best placed to land him if they agree to up their bid.
