Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Arsenal target Keisuke Honda.
The CSKA Moscow attacker has been consistently linked with a move away from Russia and is understood to have a number of potential suitors monitoring his availability.
Various sources have suggested that Liverpool and Arsenal are in hot pursuit of the 24-year-old, and imscouting.com now reports that the former are planning a bid for his services when the transfer window reopens.
Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund are alleged to be ready to rival Arsenal and Liverpool in pursuit of the €12 million-rated playmaker, whose days in Moscow appear to be numbered.
Honda has built up quite a reputation thanks to his swashbuckling displays for Japan at the World Cup; some of which led Arsene Wenger to label him a 'genius'.
"This Japansese team is based on a solid and collective defence in which everybody knows exactly what to do," the Arsenal boss told Eurosport.
"When they get the ball they can give it to Honda - and the magic starts.
"When they get that genius Honda playing up front, he has shown what a top class player he is. For me he's the best performer of the competition so far."
Arsenal were initially thought to be frontrunners for Honda's signature, but Liverpool were boosted in their pursuit of his talents when the player's agent previously admitted it would be 'great' if his client could secure a switch to Anfield.
