Liverpool are looking towards pulling off a late deal for out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Alex Song before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.
Song has been told he can leave Barcelona after being declared surplus to requirements by new coach Luis Enrique.
A number of clubs have been linked with the Cameroon international, but it is Marseille who have been closest to his signature of late.
Now, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are making a play to win the race for Song, believing he can add extra depth to their squad.
The Reds are back in the Champions League this season and have added extensively to their squad following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona earlier this summer.
Song would add Champions League and Premier League experience to the Liverpool squad, with the midfielder having turned out for Arsenal before joining Barcelona in 2012.
The midfielder has struggled to command a spot in the first team at the Camp Nou and is now being ushered out of the exit door.
