Sport.co.uk can confirm that Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour will not be leaving the Belgian club in the January transfer window due to his recent injury setback, despite confirmed interest from Liverpool and Man United.
The Red Devils and Merseysiders have been tracking the midfielder, with the two clubs predicted to battle for the Belgian international's signature in the January transfer window. However, the player's agent has revealed a second injury setback to the 22-year-old has put any possible move on hold until the summer.
"I'm afraid a move is not possible as he is now out until March," Paul Stefani told Sport.co.uk.
"There is still interest but due to his injury a deal is not possible. We will have to wait until the summer. It isn't a big setback, he we will be back in the next six or seven weeks, and then he can start training again. But a January deal is impossible now. It is finished."
