Steven Gerrard has hailed the performance of Robbie Keane during Liverpool's 2-0 Merseyside derby victory over Everton on Saturday.
The Republic of Ireland striker played a vital role in the build-up to both of Fernando Torres' goals for the Reds.
"I think Robbie was a man of the match contender today," Gerrard told Liverpool's official website.
"He did everything but score and hopefully his goal will come in the coming weeks.
"Fernando is deadly and I think he answered the critics who questioned whether he was 100 per cent fit ahead of the game with his goals."
Keane has yet to score for his new club since joining from Spurs in a £20.3million deal during the summer transfer window.
However Gerrard has insisted that his new team-mates are delighted with the contribution the forward is making to the team.
"Everyone else seems to be focusing on Robbie's need to score but the team is really happy with him and so is the manager," he said.
"He's working really hard and playing really well. The ball he put on a plate for Torres' first was top drawer and that was typical Robbie Keane.
"If he keeps contributing to the team and working hard we'll be happy for him.
"I told him (Robbie) after the game that he was magnificent. That is all you can ask for. Ideally we'd have won 3-0 today and he'd have got the last one. But it hasn't happened.
"A goal is only around the corner for him. It'll be the most important one for him because I think more will follow but I think you must give Keane credit today for his overall performance."
