Jamie Carragher thinks that Fabio Capello's management style should give England encouragement as they prepare for the World Cup.
The Liverpool defender played his first match under the Italian as he came out of international retirement to feature in Monday's friendly victory over Mexico at Wembley.
Capello is now preparing his squad for Sunday's warm-up fixture against Japan as he makes plans for next Tuesday when he must cut a preliminary 30-man squad down to 23 players.
Carragher, whose versatility is expected to secure him a place in the final squad, has been hugely impressed by the time he has spent working with his international boss and is in an optimistic mood ahead of the World Cup.
He said: "Capello is a focused manager. He is that type of manager. It is difficult for me to say much because I have only been back with England a week.
"I don't think it is right to say, 'one manager does this and it is right'. If you win, you are always right.
"Every manager has their own way of winning things, different England managers have their own ways, but the reason they become England manager is because they are very good managers.
"It is not that one way is right or one way is wrong - but this manager has his own style and it has proved successful over the years which is encouraging (for the World Cup)."
Carragher has had little problem in returning to the England fold after initially deciding to quit the international game following the friendly with Brazil at Wembley in June 2007.
He said: "The set-up is different in the sense of it is a different manager, and every manager has their own ideas and way of doing things, so that has changed.
"But in terms of the squad, the players, the backroom people, it is all the same and is always run very well, and always has been."
Carragher has also thanked the England supporters for giving a positive response to his return to international action.
After openly admitting his lack of commitment to his country in the past, he admits the reception could have been the opposite of the one that greeted him as a second-half substitute for captain Rio Ferdinand.
Carragher said: "I could have understood it if the reception hadn't been that great because I had been out of the England squad for three years of my own accord.
"I have to say a big thank you for the crowd for being the way they were."
