Brunt linked with shock Anfield move

Liverpool are being linked with a shock January move for West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt.

The 25-year-old Northern Ireland international has produced a string of eye-catching displays at the Hawthorns, and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is thought to be keen on bringing the player to Anfield.

Former Fulham boss Hodgson is keen to strengthen his attacking options when the transfer window re-opens, a point emphasised by the Reds' shaky start to the season after injuries and suspensions to the club's top attacking talent.

Brunt started his career at Middlesbrough, but moved to Sheffield Wednesday in 2004 after a loan spell at Hillsborough. He made no senior appearances at Riverside, but appeared 140 times in league matches for the Owls.

West Brom would pay £3 million for the player in August 2007, and Brunt has gone on to make well over 100 appearances for the club, predominantly in a wing position.

Liverpool are thought to have money to spend when the window re-opens, with Hodgson set to receive a transfer war chest from from new owners NESV.

The Reds boss has been linked with a string of players in recent days, with Ashley Young and Steven Pienaar just two players speculatively linked with an Anfield switch.

The Belfast Telegraph have now added Brunt to the Liverpool wishlist, although Roberto Di Matteo is unlikely to let the player leave on the cheap.

He could cost the Merseyside outfit in the region of £8 million.
