Liverpool and Newcastle will face a battle with Atletico Madrid for the services of Lille hitman Gervinho this summer.
The Ivory Coast international has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League at the end of the season with Anfield and St James' Park both mooted as possible destinations.
But, according to reports in Spain, Atletico Madrid have stepped up their interest in the striker and are ready to launch a bid at the end of the season.
Lille do not want to lose Gervinho but know that his value is likely to diminish if he does not sign an extension on his current deal, which expires in June 2012.
And it is understood that they might be willing to do business for a fee of around £13m.
