William Chalmers made just two league appearances for Liverpool, both coming during the 1924-25 First Division season when he deputised for left-winger Fred Hopkin for the visit to Birmingham City (29th November 1924).

He also played at Anfield in a 4-0 win over Bury on January 24, 1925, and went on to make a short trip across the Mersey to play for Tranmere Rovers.
