Liverpool-born Tony McNamara made the short journey across Stanley Park to Anfield from Goodison in December 1957 after a number of successful years with Everton, with whom he had scored 21 times in 111 league matches.
Tommy went straight into the side for the home game against Bristol City four days before Christmas and scored Liverpool's second goal in a 4-3 victory. That started a run of six successive matches and two more goals for the elegant winger, but he wasn't called on much in the final weeks of the season and left to join Crewe Alexandra in the close-season. His spell at Gresty Road was short too and he soon moved on to Bury, which was to become his fourth and final Football League club. That made McNamara the first player to appear in all four divisions of the Football League within 12 months. Everton were in the First Division, Liverpool the Second, Crewe in the Fourth Division and Bury in the Third.
