Titi Camara was a Kop favourite who scored some memorable goals during a short spell at Anfield.
The first footballer from Guinea to play in England, Camara finished his only full season at Anfield as runner-up to Michael Owen in the Anfield scoring charts with 10 goals.
He started his career with French club St Etienne in 1990 and had spells with RC Lens and Olympique Marseille - with whom he appeared in a UEFA Cup final before Gérard Houllier snapped him up for £2.5 million.
A real crowd favourite, the pacy Camara scored on his debut at Sheffield Wednesday and continued to produce ferocious strikes at goal throughout the campaign including memorable efforts against Coventry City at Anfield on the day the club celebrated the 40th anniversary of Bill Shankly's arrival at Anfield, and a strike against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Perhaps Kopites best memory of Camara was when he scored a goal against West Ham at Anfield in October, 1999 when he slumped to his knees at the Anfield Road end of the stadium after scoring what turned out to be the winning goal, having been told only hours earlier that his father had died. To play at all under such circumstances, never mind score the winning goal, was testament to his courage and determination to fulfill his obligations to the club that employed him.
Following the arrival of record signing Emile Heskey, Camara's days at Anfield were numbered and he was sold by Houllier to West Ham United in December 2000. Despite only playing 37 times in the first team, Titi retains something of a 'cult hero' status amongst Kopites.
After a spell at Upton Park he decided to try his luck in Saudi Arabia then Qatar and finally back to the country where he had started his professional career (France) and a short spell with Amiens.
Camara represented Guinea 56 times and scored 31 goals. He was a regular for many years and appeared in the 2004 African Nations Cup when the tournament was held in Tunisia, scoring in all three group matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and also the host nation. Guinea were beaten by Mali in the quarter-final.
In June 2009 Titi was appointed manager of Guinea's national team.
