Russell Crossley played in goal for Liverpool during the first part of the 1950s.
Crossley had his work cut out to become first-choice goalkeeper with LFC having four keepers on their books at the same time. Crossley made 25 appearances compared to the 11 by Cyril Sidlow and the six of Charlie Ashcroft during the 1950-51 season. Sidlow had left the club by the start of the of the 1951-52 season but Ashcroft was first-choice and Russell only made eight more appearances in the No. 1 jersey that year and another 19 the following season when the goalkeeping duties were shared rather more equally.
He took over from Ashcroft after the first half-dozen games of the 1953-54 season but had been replaced by Dave Underwood before the end of the season.
