A half-back who played for Liverpool towards the end of the 20th Century.
Howell made his debut for the club in the final First Division fixture of the 1897-98 season but missed only four league games the following year as the Reds finished runners-up to champions Aston Villa.
Howell was also a first-team regular for most of the last season of the century but played just twice more for the first-team after that, midway through the 1900-01 season.
Liverpool played in a benefit for Howell against Preston North End on September 30, 1904. Howell had retired a year earlier after breaking his leg, playing at Preston.
