Nigel Clough was said to be a footballer created for Liverpool when Graeme Souness pounced to sign him from Nottingham Forest.

Son of legendary manager Brian, he was even dubbed the 'new Kenny Dalglish' and wore the hallowed number seven shirt and many Kopites felt he was the missing link for the attack since the departure of favourite Peter Beardsley.

He made one of the best debuts in LFC's history, scoring two goals on the opening day of the season against Sheffield Wednesday at Anfield.

He lost his place alongside Ian Rush in attack because of the emergence of a certain Robbie Fowler, but he did bounce back in an attacking midfield role.

One game that Clough will always be associated with is the famous 3-3 draw with Manchester United at Anfield, when he was instrumental in turning a 0-3 loss into a 3-3 draw with two great goals.

He was mainly used as a substitute the following season and halfway through the 1995/96 season he was sold by Roy Evans to Manchester City.

Clough later moved into management and was very successful at non league Burton Albion, and in 2009 he followed in his father's footsteps by becoming manager of Derby County.
