Kenny Dalglish moved to snap-up Nick Tanner from Bristol Rovers for £20,000 in 1988.
The defender's first appearance for the Reds came as a 16th minute substitute for Gary Gillespie in a 4-1 victory over Manchester City at Maine Road in December 1989.
Tanner went on to make 59 appearances for Liverpool and the Bristolian netted his only goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in 1991-92.
He was a virtual ever-present in Graeme Souness's side that season, turning out 45 times for the Reds.
Tanner also spent time on loan at Norwich City and Swindon Town before injury cruelly cut his career short.
