Razor Ruddock’s career was very special indeed. He began at Millwall, before being sold to Tottenham in April 1986. He stayed two years there but was then bought back to Millwall. He didn't stay there for long and joined Southampton. In the summer of 1992, he returned to Tottenham, playing one year at White Hart Lane before Liverpool bought him.
His favourite position was behind Babb and Scales acting as a sweeper, because he confessed to not having the necessary speed. Who can forget when he almost knocked himself out equalizing in dramatic fashion against Manchester United completing Liverpool's fight back from 0-3 down to 3-3. Who can forget the games when at times it looked like he was the only defender clearing every danger attack after attack.
Razor was a player the opposition loved to hate. He had an incredible will to win, could hit some fantastic passes up field and was great in the air. He had a reputation as a troublemaker and was a tough character on the field. He broke Andy Cole's both legs in a reserve match, but Ruddock claimed he had dived. Ruddock was a regular from 1993-1995 but his fitness levels were not always up to scratch and that made life difficult for him at Liverpool where competition for places was fierce.
