Liverpool-born Joe Dickson signed for the Reds in June 1952 when he was 18-years-old, but he had to wait for his first-team opportunity until nearly the end of the 1955-56 season.

When he was finally give his chance, he took it well. Dickson made his debut on the right wing, but played as inside right and left as well, scoring four goals in six games for LFC in the 1955-56 season.
