Outside-right Staniforth originally made his name at First Division Bristol City where he played 156 games from 1906-1911. The highlight of his career was in 1909 when City lost to Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup final. Staniforth made three league appearances for Liverpool in the last full season before the outbreak of the First World War. His debut came in a crushing 4-1 home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday on the October 4, 1913. He missed the next five games but returned for consecutive matches against Preston & Newcastle in November of the same year.
