A no-nonsense player who played regularly in the left-back position under Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness until the start of the 1993-94 season, when he was transferred to West Ham with Mike Marsh in a swap deal for Julian Dicks.
David was still a few days short of his 20th birthday when Dalglish signed him from West Bromwich Albion in October 1988. He went straight into the team for a home match against Coventry just two days later and would go on to make a further 20 league appearances before the end of a season that ended in such a tragic way off the field.
A year later Burrows picked up a Championship winners' medal after Liverpool again reached the summit of English football with their 18th First Division title.
David's opportunities were reduced after Souness replaced Dalglish as manager, but the Scot had enough confidence in the young defender to select him for the 1992 FA Cup final at Wembley when the Reds comfortably beat Sunderland 2-0.
After leaving Anfield, Burrows only spent a single season in London with West Ham before he returned to Merseyside to sign for Everton.
His spell at Goodison turned out to be even shorter than his brief spell in the capital with the Hammers and David moved on to Coventry in March, 1995.
He spent four years there but was plagued by a succession of injuries. Despite that, he was still fit enough to play league football for Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday between 2000 and 2003.
Towards the end of the 2002-2003 season, the unlucky Burrows had serious injuries to his collar-bone and hamstring and was forced to announce the end of his playing career at the age of 34.
